Smoke Behrens is a lifelong trucker, cattleman, and business owner with deep roots in the livestock and transportation industries. He grew up in the world of trucking and cattle, learning the ropes from his dad, Jeff Behrens, before taking the wheel himself. Today, he runs J&T Express, Inc., a livestock trucking company that hauls livestock across the country. With years of experience on the road and in the pens, Smoke brings a no-nonsense perspective to rural business, hard work, and the realities of making a living in agriculture. 


On The Rural Dispatch, he joins Aly to share stories from the road, insights on running a family business, and plenty of unfiltered opinions about the industries that keep America moving.

ABC Beef

Austin and Mady Blair, owners of ABC Beef, are a young farm couple raising three kids while building a diversified ag operation in Iowa. Together, they farm row crops, feed cattle, run a hog operation, and sell their own beef direct-to-consumer in their local community. What started as a way to use what they already knew has grown into a diversified business that keeps them busy from sunup to sundown. Austin and Mady are hands-on in every part of their operation and they’re passionate about raising their kids in agriculture, teaching them the value of hard work, and showing up every day to build a legacy together.

Adam Prokash

Adam Prokash is a first-generation producer who built his livestock business from the ground up, starting with veal calves and evolving through feeder pigs and calves, to his work today overseeing calf programs across Wisconsin. 

Adam supplies milk replacer, meds and management support to Amish communities throughout the region, with a focus on putting relationships first. His story is one of grit, reinvention, and a willingness to follow opportunity wherever it shows up.

Olivia Harms

Olivia Harms has created her own “Rhinestone Cowgirl” sound, blending Texas, Bakersfield, and Nashville country. As the daughter of Western Music Hall of Fame member Joni Harms, Olivia debuted onstage at two days old. She was named in COWGIRL magazine’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2022 and won Singer of the Year during the First Annual Women of the West Gala in June of 2022. The Country Music Artists Association of Texas announced her as 2024’s Cowboy Western Artist. She grew up on her family's 150-year-old ranch in Canby, Oregon and, while maintaining a rigorous touring schedule, resides in Northern California.

Rick Machado

Rick began auctioneering over 35 years ago, and today he has become a preeminent and world-class talent in his field. Rick was inspired and influenced by his father, a local fundraising auctioneer, who worked in the livestock transportation business all of his life. His father encouraged him to pursue his unique auctioneering gift from a young age and make it part of his life’s work.

His passion as a cattleman and love for the business has served to cultivate and strengthen his knowledge and expertise in all facets of the industry. Rick successfully runs his own cow-calf, stocker and feeder ventures, as well as owning and operating an acclaimed American Quarter Horse breeding program. 

In addition, Rick has been part of the Western Video Market team since 1991 and serves as the lead auctioneer and cattle representative for the company. Each year Western Video Market promotes and sells over a half a million head of cattle throughout the West.
